Autumn in the Madonie
Our wines to pair with autumn dishes
When the days grow shorter and the first cool air reaches the Madonie mountains, the table changes too. Mushrooms gathered in the woods, chestnuts, pumpkin, grilled meats and aged cheeses make their return: this is the autumn cooking of mountain Sicily, hearty and fragrant, following the slow rhythm of the seasons. As we told you in From the garden to the table, for us every dish is born from a direct bond with the land, and our wines follow the same philosophy.
Here are a few ideas for bringing them to your table in the coming weeks.
Cordella Bianco Metodo Charmat: to open the evening
Fresh, lively and with delicate bubbles, Cordella Bianco Metodo Charmat is the ideal wine for an autumn aperitivo. Try it with pumpkin or cauliflower fritters, where the bubbles cleanse the palate; with fresh ricotta and young cheeses, perhaps with a drizzle of honey; or with bruschetta topped with new olive oil and olives. It also pairs beautifully with delicate first courses, such as a creamy pumpkin soup or a risotto with seasonal vegetables. To discover its story, read Cordella: a young wine between tradition and modernity.
Lilium Petrae Rosso: the perfect companion for autumn dishes
Lilium Petrae Rosso Terre Siciliane IGP brings together four grape varieties: Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Viognier and Grillo. The result is a structured yet elegant red that shows its best with the bold flavours of the season. Pair it with pasta and mushrooms, the signature dish of autumn in the Madonie, with grilled sausage and roast potatoes, or with the roasts and slow-cooked meats of a family Sunday lunch. With aged cheeses such as provola delle Madonie it finds a perfect balance, and by the fireplace it goes wonderfully with roasted chestnuts. Its name holds an ancient story, which we shared in Lilium Petrae: the lily of the rock.
A size for every occasion
Lilium Petrae is available in a 75 cl bottle, perfect for gatherings with friends and family, and in a 37.5 cl size, ideal for a dinner for two or for anyone who wants to taste it for the first time. You'll find all our labels in the wine section of our shop.
The Masseria's tip
Serve Cordella well chilled, between 6 and 8 °C, and Lilium Petrae at 16–18 °C, opening the bottle a few minutes before sitting down to eat. Choose seasonal ingredients from the market or your trusted greengrocer: in autumn, nature offers its very best, you just need to listen to it. And if you'd like to try these pairings without stepping into the kitchen, you can enjoy autumn dishes made with vegetables from the Masseria, served with our wines, at our restaurant Il Castello in Petralia Sottana.
